Country reports are issued by the Special Rapporteur after conducting a fact-finding mission to a UN member state. These report assess the health of assembly and association rights in that particular country and provide recommendations to the government on how to improve. Reports are initially shared with the concerned government, and later made public and presented before the Human Rights Council. The government is invited to issue a written response to the report, which is also made public.
Maina Kiai undertook an official mission to the Sultanate of Oman Sept. 8-13, 2014. The visit was carried out pursuant to his mandate to assess the situation of freedoms of peaceful assembly and association in the country.
